Hodwell, One of the many gardens open.

The village now has a population of ~2,500, has it's roots as an Anglo-Saxon settlement, was probably a halting place on the road from London to the North in olden days, and coins of almost all the Roman Emperors have been picked up in the fields near the village, and all manner of objects from the Neolithic Period of the Stone Age onwards have been found within a mile of the village. In 2002, a find known as the Ashwell Hoard was found in the village, a gold haul of roman artifacts related to Senuna (Roman Goddess) now in the British Museum, but replicas held in Ashwell Museum.

One of the many historic houses dating from 17th Century, Mill St.

In 2030, the Museum will be celebrating it's 100th birthday, and the Trustees and Friends of the Museum have big plans to make sure we bring all the local history to life. Stay tuned.

Ashwell is a picturesque village in north Hertfordshire some 45 miles from the centre of London and a few miles from the A1(M) motorway. It nestles on the chalk scarp on the spring line. The springs, to be found in the village, are one of the sources of the River Cam.

Many Ashwell residents open their gardens to the public to show their horticultural endeavours, and also this is where you can enjoy some of the pop-up performances from our artists and musicians. Every year is slightly different, so if you've been a regular we will always try and keep things new and fresh. â€‹â€‹
